Agent Derek Hay Blasts Will Ryder & X-Play

(Hollywood, CA) In what amounts to a prominent adult movie agent still living in yesterdays booming economic times, LA Direct owner/agent Derek Hay has blasted Jeff Mullen and X-Play for hiring actresses for their award-winning movies for less than the financial rate that he would prefer to charge.

It is no secret that the adult movie industry is in a tremendous financial spiral due to the proliferation of free porn which is causing numerous companies to shut down or drastically reduce their movie production output yet Derek Hay continues to insist on charging what many producers consider impossible talent rates even at the expense of actors who might get passed over for great roles without ever knowing they received an offer for a prospective movie role; sometimes in very high profile blockbuster movies.

I would normally never comment publicly but Derek Hay recently posted a public blog criticizing me after he read a generic comment I wrote on Lukeford where I didnt even mention him by name, stated X-Play producer Jeff Mullen. He and I spoke to set the record straight yesterday but he later went ahead and sent out an email message to his entire talent database blasting X-Play for hiring girls at rates that make financial sense for our company but not for Derek.

I understand he is doing what he can to hold the line and keep talent rates high and I can respect that but we are all living in the same collapsing economic world with free porn beating us up and yesterday is gone and its not coming back, Mullen lamented. I felt compelled to respond, defend my company and tell the story from the producers perspective.

Mullen who directs under the name Will Ryder is the 2010 AVN Director of the Year and is responsible for some of todays most successful movies that consistently win multiple adult movie awards year-in and year-out and does everything he can to boost the careers of each actor he works with yet that seems to carry very little favor with Hay who sees little value in publicity.

Not the Bradys XXX Marcia Marcia Marcia, Flight Attendants, Not the Cosbys XXX, Not Married with Children XXX, Not Bewitched XXX are only a few of the recent movies that have seen their cast members win numerous individual awards and entire cast ensembles bask in the glory of movie category wins. This year alone, X-Play movies have won AVN Awards for Best Comedy, Best Parody, Best Actor, Best Non Sex Performance, Director of the Year, Best Solo Sex Scene and have seen stars of their movies win Best New Starlet for Kagney Linn Karter who received her break-out role in Not Married with Children XXX and Tori Black who enjoyed a terrific year and appeared in multiple X-Play produced movies including Not the Cosbys XXX and This Aint the Partridge Family XXX as she went on to win Female Performer of the Year.

While X-Play is not guaranteeing awards to those that participate in their movies, the chances of being nominated and later walking away a winner are statistically higher for X-Play cast members than any other movie company producing today. Not a boast just a fact.

I think most actors have enough pride to want to be a part of something special that has a chance to be recognized as one of the great, entertaining movies of the year which usually results in soaring popularity for the individual participants. Mullen remarked.

We have dozens of beautiful ladies and great guys asking us to cast them in our movies and never more so than our upcoming spoof of Charlies Angels. Even though we have a full cast, I have wonderful girls being very persistent at being placed into the show. I guess today was the straw that broke the camels back when a very sweet girl asked once again if I would put her in the movie because she wanted to be in a blockbuster so we changed a regular boy/girl sex scene into a three-way boy/girl/girl sex scene as a favor to her (and to her friend who happens to be one of my buddies) and told her we can only offer $500 since it truly is an extra role that was not needed to complete the movie even though it definitely makes the movie better. We are thrilled to have her join the cast of Not Charlies Angels XXX and the girl is now very happy because she knows she will be spotlighted in the press co-starring in a very high profile movie and possibly wind up standing on the awards-stage next year. We immediately contacted her agent but instead her new agent (I didnt even know she was in the process of changing agents nor did her current agent) sends out this massive email telling all of their porn talent that X-Play is low-balling talent and that actors and actresses should not stand for it any longer, Mullen said with a concerned smile.

I have a lot of respect for Derek but calling me out in such a fashion and belittling our PR and marketing created the need to respond and tell the facts at least from our perspective.

In Hays blog he comments that the X-Play producers routinely tell actors they should be in their movies because of the additional media attention and press releases they will receive but Hay says that this extra attention only benefits the companys bottom line and not the actors. OK tell that to Eric Swiss, or Misty Stone or Hillary Scott or Jenna Haze or Thomas Ward or Teagan Presley, or Kayden Kross or Eva Angelina or Sunny Lane, or Monica Foster or Kacey Jordan or Sasha Grey or any of the talent that has appeared in our movies that ended up on the victory stage. Of course there is tremendous value for an actor to appear in one of our movies but for Derek to belittle that fact is absurd. I am sort of shocked but I guess people will do anything they can to hold onto something that once had more value. Derek, as king of the agents, might be basing his price expectations on a few companies most notably Brazzers who continue to pay sky-high rates even though history will bear the fact out that they were not really very good for the adult industry in the long run, Mullen continued. Most other companies are not in that high financial stratosphere anymore because it is a crap shoot making movies today and financial returns are not what they used to be.

I also wonder what some of the girls that had been cast by X-Play might say if they knew that their participation was turned down by the agent before they ever had a chance to realize they were selected. Im talking about girls who made the effort to come down to our office and audition but never knew they could have been in our next Not the Bradys XXX or Not Charlies Angels XXX because their agent rejected our offer because they wanted to hold an out-dated price line that is destined to fall and forego a prestigious project as if we were shooting a five scene gonzo, Mullen speculated.

It is reported that one girl still doesnt know that she was offered a starring role in the movie because her agent turned down the offer from X-Play over a $300 total difference in pay over a multiple day shoot. Mullen hopes he doesnt run into her at a party and has to explain. Mullen did say that if agents can get top dollar for their clients good for them but the reality is that boom times are few and far between and sometimes press clippings and great reviews should be valued like partial currency.

I guess Derek and I agree to disagree, Mullen said. I have much respect for him and even brought a girl to him the other day but if any actor today wonders about our business practice or our integrity at X-Play which he questions or the value of being in one of our movies all they need to do is talk to any and I mean any male or female actor that has ever worked for X-Play and ask them was it a worthwhile and good experience?

Sometimes it is not always about making the most money each day. Ask anybody standing on that stage when Flight Attendants won the Best Comedy award in Las Vegas if they would trade that experience for $300 or even $500? Or anybody from Not the Cosbys XXX to trade that moment for a few hundred bucks or the numerous moments that continue to come for Not the Cosbys XXX like today when RogReviews.com named the movie the top porn movie of the year and Misty Stone as Best Female Performer in their 2010 Critics Choice Awards. Ask Derek if that has any value?

Now in defense of his thought-process where he warns his talent in his email that if a performer works for X-Play at less then their normal rate then other companies will expect the same; they can easily comment the job was for a big movie and the talent wanted to take a chance and get recognized come awards time. I think it is better to work with X-Play than to sit at home and turn down jobs especially in this declining market and if I was talent I would want a say in which movies my agent was turning down.

We run a business and its our responsibility to keep our production budgets within reason respective of the current economic climate. Just the same, talent and their agents have the right to turn down any offer they receive. That is called capitalism and I get that. Turning down a starring role in a movie with no conversation with the actress is what might be referred to as a dictatorship Mullen said with a smile.

Someone asked Mullen and his business partner Scott David if they thought that Derek would organize other agents to blackball X-Play from hiring talent in the future.

Maybe, stated David.

Derek is smart hes not stupid and our movies and actors will once again be adorned with adult movie award nominations and hopefully a lucky bunch will be standing in the victory circle should we continue to be blessed with funny movies and great performances, Mullen hoped.

I love this business but it is a business and we will continue to treat everybody fairly and with respect because I truly adore each and everyone I get the chance to work with. I still like Derek and would rub his bald head just for good luck if he were here right now but I felt compelled to defend myself and my company. I think that talent is quite smart and can see the real story between the lines of discontent and of two industry veterans that agree to disagree. We just want to make great movies at X-Play with happy actors and if the agents are happy thats a bonus but they certainly should at least pretend to be happy when their actors receive critical acclaim and awards for the hard work theyve put in, Mullen concluded.

The action packed adventure will be directed by the 2010 AVN Director of the Year Will Ryder and is a sexy flashback to the feathered hair days of the 1970s.

Bree Olson, Sunny Leone and Andy San Dimas have beat out over 130 girls and will become Jill, Kelly and Sabrina playing the parts made famous by Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson.

We didnt expect to win the award for best comedy, stated Flight Attendants director Will Ryder following the 2010 AVN Awards Show that saw X-Play sweep the comedy categories at the biggest adult movie extravaganza in the world.

The gala event took place in Las Vegas at the beautiful Pearl Theater in the Palms Hotel & Casino this past weekend and got off to a very brisk start when Flight Attendants won the AVN Award for Best Comedy prompting a surprised Ryder to slap 1970s style high-fives with production partner Scott David before trampling over two brand new porn starlets as they rushed to the stage to accept their award.

The theater was dark and I didnt see those cute young girls making-out and fondling each other on the floor so I apologize to them for stepping on them but Im already negotiating with their agents for roles in our upcoming Not Charlies Angels XXX production in lieu of a lawsuit, Ryder stated.

The big-budget Flight Attendants was suddenly center-stage as the star-studded gorgeous cast stormed the stage in celebration confirming what most of them already knew while they were shooting the zany comedy. The movie is being distributed by Adam & Eve Pictures with new salesperson Gigi Appleton.

I didnt know if I should go up on stage or not so I just stayed in my seat and watched everybody else go up there and get all the glory, stated the sultry and full-breasted Shyla Stylez.

We knew this was a really special movie the moment we read the script, stated Skinworxxx star Teagan Presley who co-stars as one of the sexy Global flight attendants.

When we walked onto the set and saw the big jets and airport terminal it was like oh yeah these guys arent fuckin around, stated Misty Stone who was a finalist for Female Performer of the Year highlighted by her work in another X-Play winning gem Not the Cosbys XXX.

We are truly honored to win such an impressive award and if you havent seen Flight Attendants yet, please go to your favorite store and buy a copy because it was super-expensive to make, joked Scott David. It was almost as expensive as Pirates.

Speaking of big movies, the comparisons to the classic Zucker Brothers film Airplane is quite a compliment so in that respect, Flight Attendants is more like Not Airplane XXX in that it mocks, makes fun of and exploits dozens of subjects through an original story with clever elements of witty parody.

With Kayden Kross, Shyla Stylez, Teagan Presley, Misty Stone, Sunny Lane, Hillary Scott, Eva Angelina, Kacey Jordan, Lexi Love, Michelle Maylene, Kenzie Marie, Chastity Lynn, Cali Couture and Farrah Fox starring; Flight Attendants is quite possibly the most impressive cast ever assembled for an adult movie.

Getting gorgeous, sexy girls to be funny and witty on-camera is not an easy task, Ryder joked. It was like pulling the back teeth of an angry elephant. No Im just kidding. It was really quite easy and the entire cast bought into the script and completely brought it to life.

With a few veteran funnymen sprinkled in including pilots Randy Spears, Evan Stone and Jack Lawrence, a loopy ramp attendant played by the 2010 AVN Best Actor recipient Eric Swiss and a rather large dose of homosexual gayness from flight attendant Terrance played by James Bartholet, the recipe for success was guaranteed and Flight Attendants would become a hit.

If I didnt know any better I would swear that James Bartholet is gay, joked Scott David from the X-Play offices high above the intersection of Hollywood & Vine.

Every actor in Flight Attendants really brought their best performance and you really need that if you are going to create an award-winning movie like Flight Attendants.

Both Sunny Lane and Misty Stone received Best Supporting Actress nominations for their work in Flight Attendants. Neither one was victorious.

(Hollywood, CA) If it wasnt for our friends at Hustler Video there is no way we would be enjoying all of the AVN Awards that we just won in Las Vegas, stated X-Play president Jeff Mullen.

Mullen along with sitcums.com production partner Scott David had just been part of a glorious night that saw them win a large number of adult industry awards including Best Sex Comedy, Best Parody and the coveted Director of the Year (Body of Work) award for Will Ryder in front of a packed house of gorgeous adult industry stars, starlets, executives and fans, yet something seemed horribly incomplete.

Lost in the excitement of the bustling evening which including an unexpected win for Flight Attendants in the Best Comedy category and witnessing Not the Cosbys XXX tie for the best parody award, the usually smooth-talking Mullen was a bit out of sorts when he accepted the awards on-stage at the beautiful Pearl Theater inside the Palms Hotel & Casino.

I completely blanked out and did not thank our biggest distributor Hustler Video from the stage, Mullen confessed. It was a completely thoughtless error on my part and it actually took some of the excitement out of the rest of our night because those guys and gals at Hustler have been with us from the beginning and are a huge part of our team. They deserved to be thanked.

You know it gets a bit stressful in Vegas and we were up for some pretty big awards so I guess thats how it went on stage but Jeffs taking it rather seriously, offered David whose art direction and wardrobe are a big reason why X-Play is on such a successful run of blockbuster hits.

Until you get up there on that big AVN stage with the Showtime television cameras and the bright lights hitting you in the face you really dont know how it can totally stun your perspective, David added.

Scott David actually saved my ass when we won for Flight Attendants because after my little speech he jumped in and thanked our other wonderful distributor Adam & Eve Pictures but there was no time for him to do that later in the evening after Not the Cosbys XXX won because Thomas Ward who by-the-way won for Best Non Sex Performer for his amazing portrayal of Cliff Huxtable spoke to the audience instead of Scott, Mullen said.

I thought I would possibly get one more crack at the microphone for the Director of the Year award later in the night but that was not a trophy presented on stage I found out, Mullen lamented. So I had no way to fix my error.

Either way it was a wonderful winning night for X-Play and their distribution friends at Hustler/LFP Video and also for X-Play and their other teammates at Adam & Eve Pictures.

You know Drew Rosenfeld is the creative director over at Hustler and hes been our friend long before we were making porn movies and he actually used to take a lot of jabs and negative comments from other directors and producers for working so closely with us when we were nobodies, Mullen reminisced. Well, I dont think anybody is questioning Drews vision now.

Yeah he stuck by us as did the entire staff at Hustler and we couldnt be happier and want to thank them, Scott David concluded. Both Jeff and I also want to throw a personal thank you to David Diamond who does such a great job selling our movies at LFP.

Mullen who uses the name Will Ryder when he directs was later found sipping on a beer at the IVD Pornstarville Party at Studio 54 in the MGM when he said, Next time I think Ill have to have a few drinks before the awards show just like the good old days with Bo Kenney and SexZ Pictures and maybe, just maybe I wont forget to say thank you to those that deserve it, Mullen said with just a hint of a smile.

Both Jeff and I want to also thank AVN and all of the voters for such an honor, David stated just in case Mullen forgot to do so from the stage.

After Golden Globes Stars Align for Will Ryder & AVN Awards

Thats quite a blockbuster year by anyones standards.

This is all happening pretty damn fast, Ryder said as he prepared to fly to Las Vegas for the Adult Entertainment Expo and the AVN Awards where his X-Play production house has 32 nominations including Best Parody, Best Sex Comedy, Best Director and Director of the Year for a bevy of top-selling movies such as Flight Attendants, Not the Bradys XXX Marcia Marcia Marcia, Not Threes Company XXX, Not Married with Children XXX, Not Monday Night Football XXX, This Aint the Partridge Family XXX and Not the Cosbys XXX.

Who knows if well win anything but it sure as hell is fun going, Ryder said. I can remember watching all of the great porn stars and directors some years back and just wondering if we could one day get up there and compete.

In what is a bit of a surprise to Ryder, XCritic.com just named Not the Cosbys XXX as the best movie of 2009 with their annual Top Ten Porn DVDs of 2009 list.

Having an interracial movie with a black family win an award for the best porn movie of the year is amazing, Ryder rejoiced. I hope our Cosby Show spoof inspires blacks and whites to unite and get into each others pants especially while in Vegas. Jungle fever is a good kind of sickness.

Along with production partner Scott David, Will Ryder and X-Play enjoy their status as a top-notch studio that has earned the respect and attention of others.

Battle Royal? Not Married with Children XXX vs Not the Cosbys XXX as Best Parody

(Hollywood, CA) Many are saying that Not Married with Children XXX is the best porn parody of the year and with the recent explosion of adult movie spoofs, AVN has added a Best Parody category to their upcoming awards ceremony in Las Vegas. However others say that Not the Cosbys XXX might be the best parody which is causing headaches and a sense of concern for the hit-makers at X-Play which created both movies.

Why the concern? Not Married with Children XXX is a favorite to win because the movie is âjust like the famous Fox Television show of the 1980s and early 90sâ and features spot-on performances by Eric Swiss as Al Bundy earning a Best Actor nomination, Kagney Linn Karter for Best Supporting Actress as the slutty Kelly Bundy and Brittany OâConnell Best Supporting Actress for her hilarious role as Peg Bundy.

However, Not the Cosbys XXX is also âso spot-on perfectâ with Thomas Ward playing Cliff Huxtable in what many are saying is the greatest non-sex performance ever in the history of adult cinema. His performance is so uncanny that many think they are watching sir Bill Cosby himself and when you throw in the Female Performer of the Year nominee Misty Stone as Denise Huxtable and some of the greatest family situations ever you begin to have a battle royal brewing.

Gram Ponante writes in his movie review, âNot Married with Children XXX features a script that is just as good (or bad) as the original. If Fox picked up 22 episodes of Not Married with Children XXX, I would watch it.â

Movie reviewer Don Houston first wrote glowingly about Not the Cosbys XXX on Xcritic.com, âItâs the high mark as the best sitcum (situation porn parody) to date, elevating the standard for the rest of the pack yet again.â His words came before he would get a chance to watch Not Married with Children XXX which came out two months later.

Hence the headaches felt by producers Scott David & Jeff Mullen who worry that the awards voters might split their votes hurting their chances to win.

âLook, Not the Cosbys XXX is our black Brady Bunch because it is so wholesome, pure and good until they take their pants off. Not Married with Children XXX is Americaâs number one raunchy comedy for good reason because they are completely dysfunctional until they take their pants off,â joked director Will Ryder.

âWe canât worry about splitting votes because that will drive us insane but weâre proud of both movies and I think either one of them can win,â stated co-producer Scott David who knows that winning wonât be easy.

Both movies will be broadcast on Playboy TV in the upcoming year.

Georga at Adult Movies Today.net thinks that the X-Play sitcums are a huge cut above all other competitor parodies writing, âYou also start to wonder why Will Ryder never became a mainstream director for television.â

Rogreviews.com writes, âThe X Play team still makes the best parodies on the market.â

Don Houston might tip the scales when all is said and done as he wrote, âthere has been nothing released in the last year from competitors that beat this one.â

He was referring to Not Married with Children XXX.
